The common assumption is
that along with technology, people have gotten smarter as well. Uh,
hello?? Over here...hmm, it seems that many of us will believe just
about anything, if you can keep our attention. I know it's always
been that way, but we seem to keep hitting new lows in stupidity.
As hard as it is to believe,
there are a grand total of zero solid leads in the case of JonBenet Ramsey's
incredibly suspicious death. Professional Police Forensic Investigative
Research Scientists have now officially ruled out a boot as evidence in
the invesitgation. Apparently, John and Patsy Ramsey had turned it
over to the cops. A bloody footprint was found near the lifeless
body of their daughter. The boot the Ramsey's maintained belonged
to the killer actually belonged to a man who committed suicide just months
after the murder. The opportunity was just too tempting. What a perfect
solution: He killed himself because maybe he was overwhelmed by the
immense evil of his act...the guilt was too much to bear. Or more
likely, he was tormented by something else. Police say the boot didn't
match the print. Oh well, you can't blame a guy (and his wife) for
trying.
Another prime example of
our complete abandonment of intelligence is the Murder trial of Rae Carruth,
former NFL bigshot and proud father of the victim's infant child.
If you know the details, you know that Carruth is currently on trial in
Charlotte, charged with masterminding the murder of his girlfriend, Cherica
Adams, and the attempted murder of his unborn child.
Carruth maintains his innocence.
It's possible. Of course, that's even easier to believe if you ignore
the fact that Cherica's frantic call to 911 features her actual voice naming
Rae Carruth as the one who did it, or had it done. Also ignore the
fact that he refused to submit to police questioners until they formally
charged him with a crime. And of course, the trip he took to Tennessee
with another girlfriend was certainly not an effort to evade justice...even
though Mr. Carruth travelled in the trunk...he might've been making sure
the spare was inflated...
And now finally, we need
to ignore the testimony of one of the former football star's co-conspirators,
Michael Kennedy. He claims Carruth enlisted the help of several other
thugs, but masterminded the entire sordid episode. Normally, this
sort of testimony is delivered as part of a plea bargain, but prosecutors
say there is no deal. Kennedy is doing this against the advice of
his own counsel. One has to wonder why.
If this trial goes true to
form, Carruth will be aquitted, and will spend the rest of his days looking
for the "real killer" somewhere around the 19th green. Meanwhile,
many of our great thinkers, the same folks who thirst for knowledge, and
look to Jerry Springer for answers to life's burning questions, probably
won't even notice. |
