Comments by The Satyr

In the 1930's a private collector for erotic stories paid Henry Miller, Anais Nin and a few of their other friends a dollar a page for erotic stories. No matter what they wrote the collector always replied back with, "It is fine. But leave out the poetry and descriptions of anything but sex. Concentrate on the sex." This meant the differences in smells, texture of hairs, sights and sounds.

All poetry was to be stricken and nothing but a clinical description of the sexual act was to be left. For the money they complied but even still they had too much poetry in their writing for the collector. Eventually they drafted a letter, that though they never sent it, that explained their thoughts of the collector.

"Dear Collector: We hate you," it begins, "You do not know what you are missing by your microscopic examination of sexual activity to the exclusion of aspects which are the fuel that ignites it…. The source of sexual power is curiosity, passion." They furthermore state that, "Only the united beat of sex and heart together can create ecstasy."
Now the letter itself is much longer and detailed but that is the heart of it. When I read this, which came from the preface of Delta of Venus: Erotica by Anais Nin, my first thought was Internet porn sites and their relentless pursuit to fill every email box with ads to their sites.

Now don't get me wrong, I like pornography but when I want it, not every single time I get on the net. The Internet is overloaded with pornography sites, everywhere that you go you see ads displaying teen nudes, hot gay action, and hottest animal sex on the web! I mean come on. I want to be able to surf without having to look at naked people all the time. I want to be able to open my email and not have all junk mail from "amateurs" wanting me to come see the first time that they got fucked.

Please, most of these "amateurs" can be found on hundreds of sites and have been for years. You're not fooling anyone! Now every now and then I find a real good site. An online friend of mine has a wonderful amateur site, www.sarahelise.com. But then she combines a lot of elements on her page. And it doesn't cost you a thing so that's always a plus too.

But for the most part pornography sites on the web take the art out of sex, the mystery and the wonder. Their aim is to strip sex of everything but the clinical "fuck" picture. I want to see erotic work. I want to see a return to the burlesque days when erotica was erotic and not just a woman laying there with her hands holding her lips open.

So with that in mind here is my own letter to the Internet Porn distributors.

Dear Internet Porn Distributors: I loathe the work that you do. I hate the way that every time I log on I am bombarded by unsolicited mail and undesired ads just so that you can try to make another buck off of a old and worn out scheme. I want passion with my sex. I want to see something worthy of being called art. I want to see something that will stimulate me in all areas, not just the pelvic region, which most times doesn't even occur anyway. I hope that one day you wake up and realize the damage that you have done to yourselves because you forgot to look for the beauty in the human form but instead concentrated on the quickest way to make a buck. I hope that you realize before it is to late and you find yourself devoid of your senses, unable to appreciate the amazing, wonderful, gorgeous panorama that the world has to offer, much less the beauty of human beings. I hope that one day this will happen and we can have a return to erotica for arts sake and not pornography for a buck.
Sincerely, the Satyr, lover of art and women and all things beautiful.
