Give Til It Hurts
So this is the time of year
that we have the most requests for charity, it goes along with the holiday
season. In our abundance, we should give to the less fortunate because
there is always someone who is worse off than we are. True. But how hard
is it to cut through the bullshit. Being from urbania, I learned a couple
of things that are common sense to the streetwise and maybe we still can
apply them.
Common sense is not academically
acquired. We now live in the age were we are being told not to trust disparity
without examination. But who in their right mind would? Are you one of
those who gave to that homeless lady because she was your mother’s age?
Did you follow her when she went home to see if she went under a bridge
or pulled out her car keys…here’s some food for thought:
If a homeless person is wearing
a Walkman are they really homeless? If you were, you would pawn that damn
Walkman.
If a homeless person walks
up to you and doesn’t smell, are they really homeless? You wouldn’t want
to be too close to a homeless person.
When a homeless person smells
like alcohol, don’t give them money.
Will work for food! Offer
them a job before you give them money you will be surprised.
When that malnutrition baby
comes up on the screen, think about how much TV time costs.
Can you feed your kids (or
one of them) for 80 cents a day? Where the hell do they shop? Roma noodles
5 for a dollar?
Food and any kind of manufactured
goods that go to Rwanda never make it past the government!
Haitian relief fund is an
oxymoron.
When you see a homeless person
at any street and I-77 {won’t be Remount Road. or around Double Oaks} where
do you suppose they came from?
Begging is big business,
before they took away the corner of Morningside and Independence in my
town, a homeless man got arrested there $800 in cash, $600 in checks and
a deposit slip for that day of $1100 was found on him. I think the next
time I’ll ask for spare change!
